Record number of visitors War Museum Overloon

Record number of visitors War Museum Overloon

In 2019, the Overloon War Museum welcomed no fewer than 132,400 visitors. This is the highest number of visitors the museum has been able to receive since 1990. In 2018, 114,400 guests still passed the museum's gates. The increase of more than 15% can be easily explained in view of the commemoration year and the great amount of media attention. Events such as "Militracks", "Museum in the dark" and "the Santa Fe Event" provided an extra boost, but the new "Turning Point Europe" and "Dutch Helmet" exhibitions also contributed to this.

A number of 125,000 visitors is expected in 2020, partly due to the 75-year liberation of the Netherlands. The commemorations attract many foreign guests to our country. Many of them visit one or more war museums in addition to the commemorations. "Militracks" and "Museum in the dark" are again on the program this year and promise to offer many beautiful and fascinating visitors. The Santa Fe Event is good for around 6,000 to 7,000 visitors and is organized every two years, the event will be back on the agenda in 2021. Museum director Erik van den Dungen is very satisfied with this increase in 2019. In 2020, the War Museum Overloon will continue to work further. It will be a year full of beautiful, new projects and exciting events, no bridge is too far for the museum, figuratively speaking then. Where a bicycle bridge of 90 meters was literally built by the museum in 2019, it will be officially opened in March 2020. It is the first and only bicycle bridge in the world through a museum where cyclists can take a free look at the exhibition.
