Opening of the D-DEX Test Phase
The Overloon War Museum presents D-DEX: an immersive D-Day experience!
The Overloon War Museum is launching a new, groundbreaking experience: D-DEX, a unique attraction that takes visitors back to the invasion of Normandy. In this impressive setting, visitors embark on an immersive journey through one of the most significant episodes in history: the landing on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944.
Visitors follow in the footsteps of the American 146th Combat Engineer Battalion, one of the first units to land on the beaches of Normandy. They were the ones tasked with clearing the beaches of obstacles under heavy German resistance. The presentation offers not only video and audio simulations but also immerses visitors in realistic sets, special effects, and authentic collection pieces. The combination of visual and physical elements ensures that you feel like part of this historical event. D-DEX is not only unique in the Netherlands but possibly throughout Europe.
This Saturday marks the unofficial opening, under the watchful eye of the museum's new junior director. Immediately afterward, the experience will open to the public, and the D-DEX presentation will enter a test phase. The museum will use this time to further fine-tune D-DEX.
"It is not only impressive and moving, but it also allows visitors to reflect on the events of World War II in a completely new way," says the director of the Overloon War Museum. "The presentation is specifically designed to appeal to a younger audience by offering a contemporary form of remembrance without losing respect for history."
