Gnome et Rhône AX2

The Gnome et Rhône AX2 was a French military motorcycle combination with an 800cc boxer engine and driven sidecar wheel. Already in production for the French army before the war, the AX2 thus predated the better-known German BMW R75 and Zündapp KS 750. It is conceivable that German engineers drew partial inspiration from the AX2 when developing their own combinations. After the occupation, production continued for the Wehrmacht, with the Terrot company in Dijon taking over manufacture. Rugged and reliable, the combination proved itself in theatres including North Africa.
