Leichter Ladungsträger Goliath Sd.Kfz. 302

This is an original Goliath – officially the Leichter Ladungsträger Goliath (Sd.Kfz. 302), or “Light Charge Carrier.” It is a small, remote-controlled tracked vehicle used by the Wehrmacht as a disposable demolition weapon. An operator could steer it towards its target via a 650-metre cable, then detonate its 60-kilogram explosive charge. The Goliath was developed by Borgward in Bremen, inspired by a French prototype recovered from the Seine in 1940. Despite its ingenious concept, it was vulnerable: the thin control cable could easily be cut by enemy fire. The Allies nicknamed it the “beetle tank.” This is the rare electric-powered version, of which only around 2,650 were built.
