Mercedes-Benz L1500A Mannschaftswagen

The Mercedes-Benz L1500A was a light 1.5-tonne truck built by Daimler-Benz between 1941 and 1944 for the Wehrmacht. The 'A' stood for Allrad — four-wheel drive — distinguishing it from the rear-wheel-drive L1500S, which served primarily as a fire engine. Powered by a 60 hp six-cylinder petrol engine, the L1500A was mainly used as a Mannschaftswagen: a troop carrier. Around 9,000 L1500s were produced in total, of which some 4,900 were the all-wheel-drive version. It was a typical product of the Schell Plan, which standardised German vehicle production.
