Participating vehicles

Panzer IV Ausf. H

This year we will once again welcome a special vehicle from the Musée des Blindés de Saumur. The French tank museum has participated before and each time with an absolute highlight. This year it is a Panzerkampfwagen IV, Ausführung H.

The Panzer IV is a medium tank which was widely deployed in Panzer Divisions. It was renowned for its reliability and range. In 1943-44 almost 3800 were produced by factories in Germany and Austria. The Panzer IV Ausführung H was common in Normandy, together with its successor Ausführung J. All in all, about 900 Panzer IV took part in the Battle of Normandy. Ultimately, the tank proved too light for combat against the Allied tanks, a role which was taken over by the heavier Panther and Tiger tanks

The tank museum in Saumur also has the later version, Ausf. J, in the collection, in addition to many more special German tracked vehicles. Without a doubt, this museum in the heart of France's Loire region is definitely worth a visit!
