Phänomen Granit 25H Sankra Kfz. 31

The Phänomen Granit 25H in Sankra configuration (Kfz. 31) was the most widely used ambulance of the Wehrmacht. Built by Phänomen-Werke Gustav Hiller AG in Zittau, Saxony — a company that once started as a bicycle factory — the Granit was produced from 1931 as a civilian delivery truck and adapted for military ambulance service from 1936. Its air-cooled 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 37 hp was robust and easy to maintain. The enclosed body could accommodate four stretchers or eight seated casualties. The first Sankras saw action during the Spanish Civil War. After the war, the brand lived on as VEB Phänomen and later as Robur in East Germany.
