Porsche Typ 62 Kübelwagen

The Porsche Typ 62 is the forefather of the Kübelwagen — Germany's answer to the American Jeep. Ferdinand Porsche designed this light all-terrain vehicle in 1938 as a military derivative of his Volkswagen Beetle. Lacking doors and fitted with bucket seats, it earned the nickname 'Kübelsitzwagen'. Despite having no four-wheel drive, the Typ 62 performed remarkably well off-road thanks to its low weight of just 715 kilograms and a ZF self-locking differential. Pre-production models were field-tested during the 1939 invasion of Poland. After improvements, the design entered mass production as the Typ 82 — ultimately over 50,000 units. This exceptionally rare example comes from the Rometsch Museum in Oldendorf (Hessen).
