Steyr 1500A

The Steyr 1500A was a light all-terrain vehicle designed in 1940 by Ferdinand Porsche for the Austrian firm Steyr-Daimler-Puch. Its air-cooled V8 engine made it equally dependable in the Libyan desert and the Russian mud — a quality especially valued by Rommel's Afrika Korps. Built from 1941 as a troop carrier, command car and light truck, over 18,000 were produced by Steyr, Wanderer and Audi. The 'A' in its designation stood for Allrad: four-wheel drive.
