Stoewer le. Einheits-PKW

The Stoewer le. Einheits-PKW was the light all-terrain vehicle from the ambitious standardisation programme with which the Wehrmacht sought to unify its army vehicles during the 1930s. Developed by Stoewer-Werke in Stettin — a pioneering brand that started with sewing machines and typewriters — this compact four-wheel-drive vehicle was initially even fitted with four-wheel steering. Powered by the water-cooled 2-litre Stoewer AW 2 engine producing 50 hp, it served as a liaison vehicle (Kfz. 1), radio car (Kfz. 2), reconnaissance vehicle (Kfz. 3) and anti-aircraft car (Kfz. 4). As Stoewer could not meet demand alone, BMW and Hanomag joined production: together some 13,000 were built.
