Tatra 57K

The Tatra 57 was a Czechoslovak passenger car that entered production in 1932, distinctive for its air-cooled flat-four engine and backbone chassis. Following the occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1939, Tatra developed a military variant at German request: the 57K — the K standing for Kübelwagen — featuring increased ground clearance and a simplified body with flat side panels. Between 1941 and 1945, 5,415 units were built, serving as a liaison vehicle with the Wehrmacht, police forces and the Hungarian army. The vehicle on display here dates from 1943.
