Tiger I Sd.Kfz. 181

At its introduction in 1942, the Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger Ausf. E was the most heavily armed and best-armoured fighting vehicle in the world. Its 8.8 cm gun — derived from the feared Flak 88 — could knock out enemy tanks at long range. Between August 1942 and August 1944, Henschel in Kassel built 1,347 examples. The Tiger proved itself on every front, from North Africa to the Russian steppe. The 'Kurland Tiger' owes its nickname to parts recovered from the former Courland pocket in Latvia. The vehicle is displayed inside the hall — feel free to walk all around it and photograph it from every angle.
