Wanderer W23 Pick-up

The Wanderer W23 Pickup is an unusual sight. The W23 was originally an elegant upper-middle-class civilian car, built by Wanderer — one of the four Auto Union brands — at the Siegmar factory near Chemnitz. Its 2.65-litre six-cylinder engine produced 62 hp. From 1937 some 7,900 were sold as saloons, cabriolets and estate cars. When war broke out, civilian vehicles were requisitioned en masse and adapted for military service. This 1940 pickup conversion is a case in point: the rear half of the body was simply replaced by an open load bed.
