Opel Blitz Maultier 2-t, Sd.Kfz. 3

The Maultier is a typical war-time product, manufactured by Klöckner, Ford (in Cologne and Amsterdam), and by Opel. This Maultier here is derived from the Opel Blitz. The design for the tracked chassis comes from the undercarriage of British weapons carriers that the Germans captured on the beaches of Dunkirk. Only when the supply of so-called Kriegsbeute diminished did Opel (as well as Ford and Klöckner) switch to the undercarriage of their own Panzer I, which had meanwhile been found too light for combat. Incidentally, the Maultier was not necessarily a factory product, as ordinary Opels were also converted into Maultiers in the field. And actually, it didn't matter much anymore what kind of wheels were used.
