A museum for everyone

At Overloon Warmuseum, we believe it is important that everyone can visit our museum. That is why we continuously work towards an accessible museum experience for visitors with different mobility and support needs. On this page, you will find practical information about accessibility, wheelchair access, facilities, and our Changing Places Toilet.

Floor plan

Dogs are welcome in the museum and museum café, provided they are kept on a leash. Registered assistance dogs are, of course, also very welcome.

Wheelchairs and mobility scooters

The museum is largely on one level and features wide pathways that are easily accessible for wheelchairs, walkers, and mobility scooters (including D-DEX). Lifts are available in locations where there are chnges in floor level.

Several wheelchairs are available free of charge at the reception desk in the museum building. In addition, outdoor wheelchairs are available directly at the entrance to the museum park, past the white entrance kiosk on the right-hand side. These wheelchairs can be used with a €1 coin. At reception, the outdoor wheelchair can be exchanged for a more comfortable indoor wheelchair. When leaving the museum, you can exchange the wheelchair again, and your €1 coin will be returned when the outdoor wheelchair is returned.

Changing Places Toilet

Overloon Warmuseum has a Changing Places Toilet. This fully accessible sanitary facility has been sepcially designed for visitors who require more space, support, and equipment than a standard accessible toilet can provide.

The facility includes, among other things:

  • A height-adjustable changing bench
  • Extra manoeuvring space for wheelchairs and companions
  • A hoist system
  • Supportive facilities for save an comfortable transfers

Please inform our reception or one of our staff members if you would like to use the Changing Places Toilet.

Seating during your visit

If standing or walking for longer periods is challenging, we have special museum stools available near the museum entrance. These lightweight folding stools can be found immediately after the entrance, on the left-hand side before the sliding doors.

The folding stools can easily be carried throughout the exhibition and unfolded whenever you would like to take a short rest.

In addition, benches are available every few metres throughout the Military Hall, among the vehicle collection.

Please note that the museum covers a large area and walking distances can sometimes be considerable.

What if it is very warm?

The museum does not have an air conditioning system, meaning that the indoor air is not actively cooled. However, we provide ventilation and airflow wherever possible.

The museum is located in a wooded area with many trees, providing natural shade throughout the museum park. We recommend that visitors drink plenty of water throughout the day and stay well hydrated.

Tips for a quieter visit

The museum can be busy at certain times. For a quieter experience, we recommend planning your visit on a less busy day, for example outside school holidays and weekends.

Please note that the museum can be particularly busy with school groups between March and the summer holidays. During this period, we recommend starting your visit from 1:00 PM onwards for a calmer experience.

Some presentations and shows make use of light and sound effects. If you are sensitive to these, we recommend avoiding these experiences. This includes D-DEX, The Battle of Overloon, and the closing film Silent Witnesses.

You are very welcome, we are open!
