Rangefinder Em 4m R40

An essential component of a German anti-aircraft battery used to detect aircraft at long range. This instrument was operated by four men: the commander and three spotters. They could track Allied aircraft at distances of up to 50 kilometers and determine their altitude. The rangefinder transmitted this data to a kind of complex calculating device (Kommandogerät) that controlled the anti-aircraft guns.
