Renault FT

The Renault FT made its debut on the battlefield in 1917. It is the predecessor of the modern tank, with its tracks and rotating turret. The FT came in two versions: one with a small cannon and one with a machine gun. Our example was built in 1918, equipped with a machine gun, modified in 1930, and used again in 1940 during the defense of France. The French had about 500 of them, but they proved no match for the German forces. The tanks were captured in large numbers. Our FT was then used for guard duties at a nearby German airbase, Fliegerhorst Volkel.
