#With Love To Ukraine

New temporary exhibition #WITH LOVE TO UKRAINE

From Friday 13 October 2023, this new temporary exhibition will be on display at the museum.

This travelling exhibition of wrought-iron crosses was made by blacksmiths from around the world in memory of the many war victoms in Ukraine. The journey started in Norway and the crosses are now on display at Warmuseum Overloon for two months.

The project started in Ukraine.

Completely unexpectedly in August 2022, Ukrainian blacksmith Serhii Polubotko received a beautifully forged cross from his Slovak blacksmith friend Daniel Miclos. It had travelled with a humanitarian package for the Ukrainian army. The cross bears the inscription: For peace and hope for Ukraine.

Serhii Polubotko's response to this was that in memory of the many victims of the war in Ukraine, he wanted to put together a museum collection of crosses which led to a global call with the working name #with_love_to_ukraine to blacksmiths to manufacture a cross consisting of steel combined with copper, bronze or brass no higher than about 500 mm.

The call led to an action that produced more than 100 crosses from 27 countries.

The #WITH LOVE TO UKRAINE exhibition will be on display until 10 December 2023, after which it will travel on to another location.
