The Story

War belongs in a museum. That is the motto of the War Museum. The museum shows how the Second World War came about, what its impact was on millions of people, and how the population coped with shortages, restrictions, and oppression. There is attention to daily life, resistance, and persecution. A key focus is the Battle of Overloon, where Allied and German troops fought fiercely in 1944. These battles rank among the heaviest fought on Dutch soil and are illustrated in the museum with original vehicles and artillery.
